Longing for Home

Henry Ford was 45 when he started a car business. Julia Child was 50 when she got her first cooking show. Moses waited 80 years before his real calling in life emerged. Though he initially resisted this calling, Moses’ willingness to accept leading a nation of slaves into freedom took much, much longer than he’d ever dreamed. In the meantime, turning to God became a habit for Moses for the rest of his life.

Recently I’ve spoken with many who are struggling these days with health, finances, planning for the future, or relationships. That level of uncertainty seems to characterize our times and reminds me of an actual prayer Moses prayed. In fact Moses' prayer became a song the Israelite community shared and recorded for us in God’s songbook in Psalm 90. Maybe you didn’t even know Moses wrote a Psalm! I would challenge you to take encouragement today from his devotion as he sang:

“Lord, YOU have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God.” Psalm 90:1-2

No matter what uncertainty you are facing - at least remember with God? You are always at home; He is our dwelling place! Not a hospital, not a mortgaged cape cod, split-level, or trailer. Later in the NT, the Apostle Paul would declare in Acts 17:28, “… in Him we live and move and have our being.’ Never forget Christians - He is your ever-present home.
